The first of four modules, Module 1 is designed for anyone active in the conservation sector.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:
– Define what safeguarding is
– Explain the relationship between power and risk of abuse
– Identify risks to and from individuals because of the situations they are in
– Throughout the course you will be guided by Anne, a Safeguarding Focal Point who is going to support your learning, as well as other representatives of people you may be in touch with through your conservation work.

Throughout this course we will often refer to safeguarding at the organisational level. However, almost all the content and tools can also be adapted to be used at other levels, for example within a particular office, or programme or team.

Once you have completed this module, you may be interested in the following modules:

Module 2: Prevention. Adopting an organisational approach to Safeguarding, including key measures to prevent harm and abuse from taking place.
Module 3: Reporting. Establishing reporting mechanisms and overcoming barriers to reporting.
Module 4: Self-assessment tool for your organisation/programme on its safeguarding journey.
