Centro Ballena Azul
Centro Ballena Azul (CBA) was established in 2002 and is based in Valdivia, Southern Chile. Our mission is to contribute to the conservation of marine ecosystems in Chile by providing scientific and technical advice, mainly considering marine mammals as focal species, for informing decision making, promoting conservation actions and raising public awareness. CBA´s main objectives include: 1) develop and implement advanced research techniques (data acquisition and analysis) to investigate and monitor marine mammals for determining priority areas, abundance, distribution, habitat selection, movement and behavioral patterns; 2) assist and recommend management actions towards decision making and environmental policies, such as advocating for marine protected areas, providing technical expertise on the development of protected area management plans; and 3) develop and implement programs on capacity building to government technical staff, general dissemination for nature awareness and contribute to environmental education projects.
